Obituary
Cass Elias Davis, son of David and Elizabeth Davis was born in Ohio, September 7, 1851 where he lived until he was five years of age when he, with his parents came to Iowa, settling on a farm near Lebanon. On December 28, 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Harmon and to this union three children were born. Mrs. Stella Pettit of Mountain Grove, MO., Mrs. Eva Pettit, of St. Clair, MO., and H. O. Davis of Ottumwa, IA. He lived near Milton until about twenty-two years ago when he moved to Nebraska, locating near Table Rock, where he lived until about eight months ago when he came to Iowa to spend the declining years with his children. His wife departed this life twenty-seven year ago. He was married to Mary Effie Bowen in 1900 but she too passed to her rest seven years ago. Since the death of his wife he has spent most of his time among his children where he received the attention and ministry of loving hands, making his last days also happy. When but a young man he became a Christian and united with the Baptist church but when he moved to Table Rock, Nebr., he united with the Christian church and continued in that faith until death. He was honored by the church by having the office of deacon, which office he held for a number of years. Eight months ago he came to Ottumwa, making his home with his son H. O. where he passed June 16, 1927, having reached the age of 75 years, 9 months and 9 days. He leaves to mourn him three children, sixteen grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, four brothers, two sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from Davis Street Christian Church, at Ottumwa, by the Rev. John W. McKee and internment was made in Edmundson cemetery near Milton.
